Marine Plumbing Repairs, Upgrades, and System Installations
Reliable plumbing networks play a vital role in the comfort, safety, and everyday functionality of any vessel. From fresh water pressure systems and hot water cylinders to toilets, showers, bilge pumps, and black water holding tanks, modern boats rely on a wide range of specialized plumbing components to operate effectively.
At Quayside Boatyard, we provide comprehensive marine plumbing services for monohulls, multihulls, launches, and cruising yachts. We help owners maintain, repair, and upgrade their onboard systems with complete peace of mind. Whether you are dealing with a frustrating water leak, upgrading ageing system pipework, or designing the plumbing for a major refit, our team coordinates the right solution for your vessel.
Reliable Systems Make Life Easier
Plumbing issues are often easy to ignore until they become major on water emergencies. Slow leaks, failed pressure pumps, blocked lines, and degraded hoses can quickly ruin a weekend cruise or cause significant damage to your boat's interior.
For cruising yachts and liveaboard vessels, dependable plumbing is non negotiable. It is the foundation of your comfort and self sufficiency during extended time away from the dock. Regular system inspections, preventative hose replacements, and planned upgrades help you avoid stressful, messy failures while ensuring a great experience on the water.
Our Marine Plumbing Services
-
Not all marine plumbing issues are immediately obvious. Freshwater tracking behind bulkheads or a slowly cycling pump can be difficult to locate. Our team can assist with diagnosing and resolving:
Hidden freshwater and saltwater leaks
Pressure pump failures and pressure drop issues
Blocked heads, macerators, and drainage lines
Ageing, brittle, or permeating marine hose replacement
General valve, faucet, and manifold repairs
-
Having clean, pressurized fresh water on tap transforms your onboard living standard. We design, plumb, and upgrade water delivery networks:
Rigid and flexible water tank system replacements
Heavy duty automatic fresh water pressure pumps
Multi stage water purification and filtration systems
Manifold installations for balanced water distribution
Accumulator tank integration to stop pump cycling
-
Stepping out of the sea and into a hot shower is one of the most appreciated comforts onboard. We look after your water heating infrastructure:
Marine grade hot water cylinder replacement (dual heating via engine coolant and shore power)
Thermostatic mixing valve repairs and installations
Pressure relief valve servicing and drainage
Complete hot water system design and line routing
-
Marine sanitation networks require specialised knowledge to remain reliable, odour free, and fully compliant with New Zealand maritime regulations. We provide:
Manual and electric marine toilet repairs and rebuilds
Complete head conversions and replacement installations
Custom black water holding tank installations and plumbing
Sanitation hose replacement (using premium, low permeation hoses to eliminate odours)
Y-valve and deck pump out system modifications
-
A dry bilge is a safe bilge. Keeping your water management and emergency pumps in top shape is an essential safety requirement. We service and install:
High capacity automatic and manual bilge pumps
Float switches, high water alarms, and smart bilge sensors
Grey water holding tanks and automatic shower sump systems
Saltwater deck washdown pumps and plumbing
Complex Layouts: Cruising Yachts and Multihulls
We specialise in setting up long distance cruising boats and multihulls for extended independence away from the marina. Catamarans and trimarans often feature highly complex plumbing networks due to having multiple hulls, independent heads, large water storage footprints, and specific weight distribution requirements.
We understand the plumbing demands of major multihull brands like Lagoon, Leopard, Fountaine Pajot, Outremer, Catana, and Schionning, as well as custom blue water monohulls. Common blue water prep projects include:
High capacity freshwater storage upgrades
Integrated watermaker installation and plumbing plumbing loops
Black water holding tank retrofits to meet coastal compliance
Upgrading to heavy duty, service friendly mechanical components
Maximise Efficiency on the Hardstand
The smartest time to tackle plumbing upgrades is while your vessel is already hauled out for its routine seasonal maintenance. It saves you time and lets multiple marine trades access your vessel efficiently while it is out of the water. At Quayside, we smoothly integrate your plumbing work right alongside:
Annual antifouling and Propspeed application
Marine electrical and electronics upgrades
Engine and mechanical servicing
Fibreglass, gelcoat, and timber restoration work
Frequently Asked Questions
-
In most cases, marine head odours are caused by older, standard PVC hoses that have become permeated by waste over time. Once the hose material absorbs the waste gas, the smell transfers permanently into the cabin air. The solution is replacing the lines with premium, heavy duty butyl rubber sanitation hoses, which are specifically engineered to block gas permeation completely.

If your existing through hull valves (seacocks) are in perfect working order and shut off the water completely, we can safely replace the toilet or service the plumbing while the boat is in its berth. However, if the seacocks are frozen, stiff, or showing signs of corrosion, the boat will need to be hauled onto the hardstand so we can safely replace the valves.
-
Yes, we can. Retrofitting holding tanks into older vessels is a common project. We can assess your available space under lockers or berths and fit either a custom fabricated polyethylene tank or a flexible bladder tank, ensuring you comply with local marine discharge rules.
-
Yes, absolutely. Having your plumbing looked at while the boat is dried out on the hardstand is the most cost effective approach, particularly if we need to inspect or replace skin fittings, through hulls, or bilge discharge valves.
